It is already among us! The third generation of the Superleggera after the 1199 Superleggera and the 1299 Superleggera has been unveiled after a month full of leaks.
The Ducati Superleggera V4 it becomes the most powerful street supercar in the history of Borgo Panigale and only 500 lucky people will be able to own one.
It has carbon fiber even in the low depths
Ducati has put all the meat on the grill to bring out the third Superleggera in its history that goes carbon fiber topBoth in the chassis, as in the subframe, the swingarm and even in the wheels that achieve a weight reduction of 6.7 kg compared to the standard version. This material, together with the titanium and magnesium used in different elements of the motorcycle, causes its dry weight to be set at only 159 kg (16 kg less than the Panigale V4).
The heart of the beast is the Desmosedici Stradale R, a 998 cubic centimeter 90º V four-cylinder engine that delivers 221 hp at 15,250 rpm and 112 Nm that becomes 234 CV with the optional Akrapovič Ducati Performance titanium exhaust.
The weight-to-power ratio is an impressive 1.41 hp / kg, a figure that, according to Ducati, a record for a sports car approved to circulate on the street. It also has a racing kit available that makes it even more spectacular with a weight that places the scale at 152.2 kg and which, together with the 234 hp, achieves a power-to-weight ratio of 1.54 hp / kg.
To control all that muscle, it has three driving modes called Race A, Race B and Sport (the first two for the track and the third for the road). It also has other novelty five driving modes with which you can change parameters such as Traction Control (DTC), Skid Control (DSC), Wheelie Control (DWL) and Engine Brake Control (EBC). Its instrument panel offers the 'RaceGP' mode, which shows the same information as the Ducati Desmosedici GP20 and that has been designed in collaboration with Andrea Dovizioso.
Whoever gets on the back of this Italian creature on a route will be able to see the times you do per lap thanks DLT GPS that automatically detects not only lap times but also intermediate times and displays them directly on the screen each time you pass these points. It has a Lap Timer that allows you to memorize the coordinates of five different circuits. By default, the system comes with the coordinates of the finish line and intermediate five mythical circuits: Laguna Seca, Mugello, Jerez, Sepang and Losail.
Of course, the cycle part has to accompany so many thoroughbreds to control them. It uses a system of Öhlins suspension With a pressurized fork, titanium appears in the damping and uses specially manufactured MotoGP derived valves to improve bump damping at the start of compression. Ducati has not skimped on the parts intended to brake the set with Stylema R calipers, specially made by Brembo for this Superleggera V4.
They could not miss its spoilers, located on the sides of the front fairing, which were inspired by the 2016 MotoGP Ducati with which a downforce of 50 kg at 270 km / h, 20 kg more than the 2020 Panigale V4 and V4 R.
To give us an idea of the performance they have achieved with this Italian race, the official Ducati tester, Alessandro Valia, did a time of 1:52:45 at the Mugello circuit (with the racing kit and slick tires). He fell less than two seconds away from the best lap of the Panigale V4 R SBK commanded by Pirro in 2019 during the Italian Superbike Championship.
There will only be 500 Superleggera V4 and each one will have its production number (it will coincide with the frame number) on the chassis, the fork and on the nozzle where the ignition key is inserted.
And since we are talking about an exclusive product, only the 500 buyers of the Superleggera V4 will be able to choose to get a Dainese leather suit with airbag and an Arai carbon fiber helmet that will match the design of the motorcycle.
Also, only those who get hold of one of the 500 beasts will be able to live the "SBK Experience" that will allow them to pilot the Panigale V4 R that participates in the World Superbike Championship on the Mugello circuit. And it is more! Only 30 lucky Superleggera V4 owners can be mounted on the Desmosedici GP of Dovizioso and Petrucci.
The first units will be delivered from June 2020 in Europe and only five motorcycles will be manufactured per day. The 500 units will be ready in the same year 2020. Its price will be 115,000 euros, more expensive than the initial price (90,000 euros) because of the polluting emissions tax.
