Ducati has presented a world premiere of the new member of the company via the Ducati World Première series website which has been posted on YouTube to release all the models that will arrive next year. This time it was the turn of an "old" acquaintance who has dressed up to tour the circuits.
It's about the Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak, a bike that leaves the trail concept behind to focus on dynamic behavior on the track. It has solutions brought directly from its sister, the Ducati Panigale V4 S, such as the complete suspension, electronics or braking equipment with a single intention: to go as fast as possible on circuits.
Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak: built to dominate the asphalt
Chapter number three of the web series that Ducati is carrying out to present all its novelties for 2022 was named " Rule all mountains " (He governs all the mountains), a declaration of intentions that made us dream of a model capable of conquering the most dangerous mountain.
And what mountain better fits those requirements than the famous climb of Pikes Peak in the United States. For the Italian firm it has also been the surname of its new mount, the Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak, also making it a the most powerful asphalt trail in its range. And it is that it has many novelties that will delight the most experts.
In fact it was developed by introducing significant changes in terms of frame geometry, ergonomics, electronic controls, as well as numerous exclusive components, which give the bike a distinctly sportier attitude compared to the standard Multistrada V4.
Starting with its exterior, the first thing we realize is that we are facing a totally new version by having a 17-inch front wheel and a single-sided swingarm at the rear. Two elements that make your intentions clear. The motorcycle's racing soul is intensified by the exclusive "Pikes Peak" livery in red and black, faithfully inspired by both the colors and graphics of the Ducati Desmosedici GP '21; even the numbers on both sides of the fuel tank help to highlight the deep link to the racing world.
But also, to further emphasize its sporty character, it has a wide range of components made of carbon fiber, in addition to the Akrapovič titanium and carbon silencero (approved for road). Other distinctive aesthetic elements are the low smoked visor, the Öhlins front fork feet in gold anodized and the two-tone black and red rear seat adorned with the V4 logo and the Ducati Corse badge applied to the "peak".
As for its mechanics, it still uses the same Granturismo V4 engine of the conventional Multistrada, with 170 hp and a maximum torque of 125 Nm at 8,750 rpm. This engine, specifically designed by Ducati for the Multistrada V4 family, is extremely light (only 66.7 kg) and compact. With a displacement of 1,160 cc, it has been optimized to intensify the characteristics of the bike. In addition, it is capable of deactivating two of its four cylinders when it is running at idle, which represents an evolution in terms of performance and efficiency.
Where we find another significant change is in its frame. With a totally new geometry adapted to the changes suffered, the aluminum monocoque chassis has been adjusted to achieve a different inclination of the head tube (25.75 ° compared to 24.5 ° for the Multistrada V4), without forgetting that the geometry has been recalibrated of the steering advance and the distance between axles adapting to the different uses of the motorcycle.
Regarding the Multistrada V4, the driving position has been renewed completely - the footpegs, for example, are higher and moved back to increase the maximum lean angle, while the handlebars are lower, narrower and employ a curved tube. The rider benefits from an even better sporty driving feel while maintaining an excellent level of comfort.
The new machine mounts Marschesini black forged aluminum wheels 2.7 kilos lighter than those of the Multistrada V4 S, contributing to a more efficient dynamic behavior and reducing the total weight of the set by 4 kg. To fit these wheels, use Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV asphalt-ready sports tires measuring 120/70 at the front and 190/55 at the rear.
In addition, the suspensions have been changed to Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 They guarantee brilliant performance in sporty driving, by using an "event-based" mode, the same one adopted by the Panigale V4 S and Streetfighter V4 S, which automatically adjusts the settings according to the user's driving style.
To stop it, Ducati has also relied on the same brakes on the Panigale V4. A Brembo Stylema braking system with two 330mm discs on the front wheel and monobloc calipers while on the rear, it uses a single 265mm disc combined with a floating caliper.
In terms of electronics, the Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak inherits the latest generation of the sophisticated electronics package of the Multistrada V4 S, which includes, among others, the standard radar technology on both the front and the rear, offering the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Blind Spot Detection (BSD).
In addition, it also includes electronic novelties aimed at obtaining sporty driving. Along with the optimization of the engine, a more driving mode called Race which improves both the speed of the Quickshifter and the stretched at revs. The response of the antiwheelie control as well as that of the ABS Cornering has also been improved to be safer and work in any driving situation, even the most sporty. The 6.5-inch TFT screen is available as standard and allows the user to see the GPS navigator thanks to the advanced Ducati Connect system.
