Thursday afternoon is full of surprise, as Ducati's presence in the MotoE category is joined by more news. Two of the great mysteries that we had in MotoGP for next season have been solved at once: with what brand will the RNF Racing team race and who will be its second driver.
RNF Racing, the structure resulting from the disappearance of Petronas, is going to be Yamaha's satellite team, although only with the 2022 season confirmed. The second pilot of the structure will be Darryn Binder, thus ascending directly from Moto3 to MotoGP for reasons far removed from sports.
RNF Racing's contract with Yamaha is limited to 2022 only
The most surprising thing about the agreement between RNF Racing and Yamaha is that they only ensure that they will stay together for one season. The contract between both parties is limited to 2022, although Yamaha reserves extension options in 2023 and 2024. Everything indicates that it is the easiest way to team up with the VR46 as soon as possible.
Recall that VR46 signed with Ducati due to Yamaha's refusal to leave Petronas, but after the shock of the Malaysian sponsor, it would now be more natural for Valentino Rossi's team to be a Yamaha satellite and the RNF Racing satisfies Aprilia's cravings or, if they arise, Suzuki's. That's where the one-year agreement can come from.
Yamaha had a signed agreement with Andrea Dovizioso and putting it on the VR46, which it had also signed with Ducati, was too gibberish. RNF Racing, the structure of Razlan Razali which owes its initials to the initials of your child's names, will act as Yamaha's satellite team in at least 2022. WithUs will be the sponsor.
On the other motorcycle, as Dovizioso's partner, Darryn Binder will appear. The South African rider stars in a bizarre ascent from Moto3 to MotoGP without even going through Moto2. Binder had a contract with Petronas for 2022 And with the structure of the small categories disappearing, it could only end in MotoGP.
"I am very grateful for this opportunity, as my life's dream has been to race in the MotoGP class. I was definitely not expecting to jump directly from Moto3 to the highest category, but I think I am up to the challenge, and I am ready to work hard for 2022, "Binder said in the statement.
RNF Racing saves an option in Binder's contract for 2023 in case the flute sounds, but it looks like the South African will be a fleeting rider who came to MotoGP due to a contractual mess. He will make his 24-year-old debut after seven seasons in Moto3 in which he has only won one race and has been on the podium six times.
