Marc Márquez continues to be intractable on his circuits. The Honda rider has given an exhibition in Austin, already leading in the first corner and leading absolutely all the laps of the race. From less to more, controlling, Márquez has seemed the unbeatable pilot before the injury to get the second win of the year.
In the fight for the world cup Fabio Quartararo has dealt a practically definitive blow finishing just ahead of Pecco Bagnaia. The Frenchman was second, so he will be world champion at Misano just by being ahead of Bagnaia, or even lagging behind if it is off the podium.
Quartararo will have a very favorable match ball in Misano
The best start was made by Marc Márquez, who managed to put himself in the first position at the start. Quartararo also passed Bagnaia, and even Álex Rins managed to get the bike into Ducati's. Jack Miller was already in ninth position and fighting Brad Binder to join the podium group.
Takaaki Nakagami's downfall when he was in sixth position, immediately behind Bagnaia. The Italian was having a hard time keeping up the pace in the opening laps, while Quartararo was keeping up with Márquez. Miller, with tires harder than the rest, was already in sixth position happening at the same time to Binder and Joan Mir.
Johann Zarco, who had recently operated on, also went to the ground. Jorge Martín was the one who now came like a plane, already pressing a Quartararo that he was losing contact with Márquez. Miller also surpassed Bagnaia. The two Ducati were coming upwards and they looked like Márquez's toughest rivals.
Marquez was running away. The eighth world champion was going straight for his second victory of the season and was already close to two seconds ahead of Quartararo. The interest was in the fight for the podium, where the Ducati of Martín and Miller could give Bagnaia a hand by overtaking Quartarararo.
The lousy weekend of Aleix Espargaró ended with one more fall, the fifth of the Grand Prix, which left Aprilia with no points in Austin. Bagnaia seemed to be recovering by overtaking Rins and going to find Martin and Miller. It was going to be curious what Ducati decided in case of reaching the end of the race like this.
But he was not going to do it or need it, because Bagnaia was already hunting Miller even though the Australian had harder tires. And it seemed to arrive a team order for Bagnaia to pass by. But it did not seem that Martín had the same premise, because he was holding on in that third position on the podium.
Nevertheless physical problems came to Martín, who even skipped a curve and he already had Bagnaia glued behind him. The final part of the race was going to be eternal. In addition, he fell a 'Long Lap Penalty' that definitely condemned him in that battle with Bagnaia. He was back on track fifth.
Victory for Marc Márquez, the second of the season and overwhelming. Second position for Fabio Quartararo, who will have a match point already in Misano, and finally who has completed the podium has been Pecco Bagnaia. Martín served the penalty on the last lap and lost the spot to Rins.
