Video: Joan Mir and Álex Rins see green shoots with the new Suzuki motorcycle for MotoGP: "The engine is more powerful and the chassis brakes better"

The between-season test that MotoGP has carried out at the Misano circuit has had two great novelties. The first was the completely new motorcycle that Honda presented, and with which Marc Márquez, Pol Espargaró and Stefan Bradl gave each other a good tute with an eye already set on the 2022 season.
But there was another great technical novelty. Suzuki was presented at Misano with a motorcycle that had great advances by 2022, including engine and chassis developments. Both Joan Mir and Álex Rins had very positive words for a new package that will be crucial in the future of the Hamamatsu house in MotoGP.
Suzuki debuted an engine from 2022 and a chassis and 'holeshot' that could be assembled as early as 2021
Three novelties put Suzuki on track at Misano. The first, the new engine that will be able to mount already in 2022, and that seems to give them more power. But they also released the chassis that they will be able to use in the rest of the 2021 season and a new version of the 'holeshot', since the old one had been discarded by the pilots.
If we look at the times table we can clearly see the progression in Joan Mir. The world champion finished third, but only one tenth of Aleix Espargaró's best time. It is true that they are only a few tests, but the main characteristics of the Suzuki is not mainly its explosiveness on one lap.
That's why Mir had a smile that " the engine may be a little better next year, it has more power, and this will help us because it is something we need. We have worked today with a new chassis that has been quite fast. The phase that always cost me to stop the bike seems to have a margin, the chassis is better."
Rins was more restrained about the engine, but he did dare to say cautiously that "the new engine is more powerful. I am happy because we have been fast and we have good potential. But we haven't tested the new engine on the softer tires, so I don't know if we will improve on Saturdays."
On the 'holeshot' there are also positive impressions, although more restrained, on the part of both drivers. And it is that in this sense Suzuki drags a considerable delay with respect to the competition. "He's a little better. We have worked better with him than without him."Rins commented, in a line similar to Mir's.
Perhaps the part that raises the least doubts is the chassis, which according to Mir " I think it can be used this year. Things have been brought in for improvement this year and it seems to be working. Yes, now with this chassis the bike stops better, but there are other things that are not going so well, that's what we have to work on, just change some of the geometry that needs to be different on this chassis ".
We'll see if he's in time to prevent Suzuki, and Joan Mir, from completing one of the worst title defenses in living memory. Throughout the MotoGP era the only time a champion reigning brand didn't win a race The following year was what happened last year with Honda, after Márquez's injury. Suzuki would have fewer excuses.
The 2022 motorcycle will be vital in shaping Suzuki's future in MotoGP. Both Joan Mir and Álex Rins terminate their contract with the Japanese brand, and if they do not see the possibility of fighting for victories, they could abandon the project, especially in the case of the world champion, who has already had siren songs and has spoken publicly about it.
