When Tito Rabat announced that it was going to compete in the Superbike World Championship with a Ducati Panigale V4 RAlthough it was not in the official team, the illusion was unleashed about what could be a second youth in his career. But after the first eight rounds of the championship it seems clear that things are not working out for him.
His best result all season is a ninth placeIt only has 38 points and the worst of all is that it gives the feeling that it has gone from more to less. His best event was the second, in Estoril, a circuit that he did not even have at hand, but from then on the season has gotten complicated for him.
Rabat's best results were in Estoril, the second round
This weekend in Magny-Cours the battle of Rabat has once again been in positions too delayed for a Moto2 world champion with him. Fourteenth in Saturday's race and fifteenth in Sunday's two, a loot of just three points throughout the weekend that is clearly insufficient.
Only the MotorLand and Donington Park events were worse than this one for Rabat, but with the exception that in those he suffered two falls in both, while in Magny-Cours he has finished all the races. Only the falls of others have allowed it to have been able to add some points.
Rabat is by far the worst Ducati of the entire season. Borgo Panigale's brand runs with five bikes, and Rabat's is the worst classified. He is fifteenth with 38 points, while the second worst Ducati, that of Axel Bassani, is twelfth with 100 points in your locker. 62 difference.
"We worked tirelessly to find a set-up that allows the driver to fight for the top ten. In race two Tito had a difficult exit, but fortunately he was able to come back. On the last lap we lost three positions and the result does not reflect the great work we did. I want to thank the whole team that every weekend gives 100% ", says Marco Barnabó, the team manager, about the situation.
There are five rounds left in the remainder of the season, but If Rabat does not improve, it will be difficult for Ducati to continue betting on him. His results are similar to those he obtained in MotoGP during his last stage, when what the Borgo Panigale brand expected is that he would be consolidated in the top ten and prowl the podium from time to time.
At Barni Racing, his team are doing everything they can to change performance, and have even incorporated a handcrafted swingarm made expressly for Rabat that they premiered in Navarra. We will see if the improvement is noticeable and the Moto2 champion can save his career in series derived motorcycles. Going from MotoGP to Superbikes is not easy.
