The Ducati Multistrada V4 has just arrived. At Borgo Panigale they have reinterpreted their maxitrail and have given it an interesting twist that goes much further than a new four-cylinder engine.

The new Multistrada V4 is much more capable than its predecessor, it is armed to the teeth and represents a revolution in the approach of the model. Curiously, this new generation has been presented with a 19-inch rim, moving away from its initial postulate, but in Italy already they have hunted a test unit riding a 17-inch tire. Is a new variant coming?

A little more sporty DNA for the Multistrada V4

More than a new generation, the Ducati Multistrada V4 is a totally new model in itself that shares nothing more than the name with the outgoing model (with which by the way it will coexist, for now). The generation gap goes far beyond a simple facelift.

On a technical level, the new Ducati Multistrada V4 has a similar approach, but much more ambitious. The traditional 90º vee twin disappears to make way for a four-cylinder engine V4 Granturismo also at 90º, with 1,158 cc, 170 hp and innovations born in MotoGP such as the counter-rotating crankshaft or the Twin Pulse ignition.

Beyond the engine, the monocoque chassis made of aluminum is unique in the category and relegates to the typical Ducati steel multi-tube frame. There is also no trace of the desmodromic distribution system. These points have scandalized the most fanatical defenders of the brand, but after having tried it, it must be said that it is a bike that works really well.

Part of this behavior is conditioned by the front wheel, fitted as standard with a 19-inch rim. Something that made us wonder if both the versions with 17-inch rims, more asphalt and as we knew the Multistrada until now, as well as the Enduro versions, would be suppressed.

At the moment the brand has not confirmed or denied anything in this regard, but in Italy the Moto.it colleagues have already hunted a test unit with 17-inch Marchesini alloy wheels on both axes and a design similar to those used in the sports models from the house of Borgo Panigale. In addition to this new set of wheels shod with sports tires, the unit was also equipped with a single-sided swingarm which does not currently mount the Multistrada V4, as it uses a conventional swingarm.

These changes could be aimed at filling the gap in the sportier version of the Multistrada V4, with a clearly more asphalt focus and which would also be equipped with Öhlins suspensions instead of the Marzocchi of the current set.

This new configuration could be the Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak that has already been registered but of which we still do not have details, or a split model with more sporting aspirations and that in turn would give shelter to this special edition.

What is clear is that the Ducati Multistrada V4 still has a lot of life left. It has just been born and thanks to its technological deployment and the possibility of equipping double radar make it the forefront of the trail segment.
