Beyond cars, Peugeot is a brand with more than 120 years of history in the manufacture of motorcycles. The lion brand continues to seek its niche in the alternative mobility sector, and that is why it has renewed its Peugeot metropolis, your three-wheeled scooter that can be driven with the car license.
Directly from its factory in Mandeure, the Metropolis is renewed for 2020 with a new look, the same premium philosophy and a more feline design inspired by its latest cars. In addition, the Metropolis seeks differentiation through a new Euro5 engine and a unprecedented connectivity.
Peugeot Metropolis: a hungrier lion
The Peugeot metropolis made its debut in 2013. Now it has undergone a makeover and the French have taken it very seriously, with sharper lines inspired by the brand's DNA in its most recent models. Thus the Metropolis uses a more aggressive front, new headlights with led technology and fang-shaped daytime running lights and a rear with claw-shaped pilots.
Behind the screen is a completely redesigned control panel with double analogue dial and a central TFT display 5-inch to display all the necessary information and serve as an interface for smartphone connectivity.
The heart of the new Peugeot Metropolis is a new in-house development engine. Baptized as 400i LFE (LowFrictionEngine) it complies with the Euro5 standard thanks to a revision in the friction of the elements and a reduction in the weight of the components. Thus, the connecting rod bearings, the crankshaft, the camshaft and the lubrication system are new, as well as the triple catalyst exhaust and Dell'Orto injection.
At Peugeot they presume that this engine is the most powerful in its category, with a power of 36 hp and 38.1 Nm of torque for a consumption of 3.9 liters per 100 km and 285 km of theoretical autonomy thanks to a 13.5 liter tank.
Despite its power and displacement, the Metropolis can still be driven with a car license thanks to its double front axle. The double wheel in the front with alternative suspension It has not changed, nor have its general dimensions, so there are apparently no changes at the chassis level.
In this way other interesting attributes are also preserved such as the flat platform for the feet, the recess under the seat with 17 liter capacity or the ability to maintain verticality without placing your feet on the ground.
The brake equipment is composed of two 230 mm discs at the front bit by single piston calipers and a third disc on the 240mm rear axle. The braking system is complemented by the mandatory ABS system, this time signed by Continental, and the SBC combined braking system.
The technological note comes from what the brand calls an emergency braking system, which is actually a emergency signage. It operates when the speed is greater than 50 km / h and the electronics detect a braking greater than 6 m / s, automatically activating the emergency lights until the deceleration is less than 2 m / s.
Additionally and to improve safety, the Metropolis also incorporates as standard traction control to contain rear wheel slippage by accelerating on slippery surfaces. It has three modes of action: Urban, Sport and Off.
The technological section is dotted with other benefits such as the keyless opening and starting system, but above all the great leap forward is in relation to connectivity i-Connect. Through a dedicated application, we can control some parameters of the motorcycle from the phone, but also receive instructions from gps navigation. Other capabilities such as displaying calls or received messages are also included, but are less useful.
The Peugeot Metropolis will be available in two finishes: The Active finish will be the basic one and already includes the 5-inch screen, 12V socket, adjustable backrest and a single VarnishTechnium metallic color. The Allure finish adds upholstery on the hood, USB socket, i-Connect instrumentation, specific details and four colors to choose from.
Regarding prices, the difference is 600 euros between the two, with the Metropolis Active starting in 8,799 euros and the Metropolis Allure for 9,399 euros.
