In the past Milan Hall we found a lukewarm feeling. Yes, there was a lot of movement, new motorcycles and very passionate models, but in a small portion of our little heart we found an empty space to fill, and we were missing some new features.

Playing with our feelings, the palm was taken by Aprilia. The Noale house presented really interesting models that open the door to a new range, confirmed or practically confirmed models, and one more motorcycle that only showed us the leg: the Aprilia Tuareg 660.

Aprilia Tuareg 660: mystery trail

This EICMA 2019 has been a turning point for Aprilia. For the first time the Italian house has decided to bet on a totally different path from the one they have traveled until now with the inclusion of a new power base. Derived from the V4 engine that they have popularized, they have decided to cut it in half to create a block of two cylinders in parallel.

This new propeller has been confirmed for production with confirmation from the Aprilia RS 660 as a model for 2020, a light sports car that develops 100 hp of maximum power for a radical set with a clear circuit vocation. Because no, you don't need 200 hp to have fun on the track. It is enough with half to enjoy the beast, and more if you accompany it with almost racing electronics and black leg cycle part.

Along with the definitive RS 660 we could also see the first prototype of Aprilia Tuono 660. The naked (or semi-fair) version of the sports car will foreseeably arrive in 2020 using the same base but with the power cut to 95 CV and the same radical approach of its older sisters to delight the A2 card and place itself above the current Shiver 900.

But behind these two great novelties was hidden (pun intended) a third motorcycle equipped with the same engine. Far from the media spotlight and without making any reference to this new model in the press releases, Aprilia introduced in an extremely timid way a third 660 in Milan: the Aprilia Tuareg 660 placed in a display case and covered by lush vegetation.

The Tuareg designation dates back to decades past the Italian factory, a name that is now being recovered and that we have been able to see printed on the rear of a prototype of which we have only seen some minor details.

Knobby tires, spoke rims, a robust aluminum swingarm and, more importantly, a completely new frame with a Trellis-like steel multitubular configuration make up the mysterious set-up of the future Tuareg 660.

There is no doubt that Aprilia is working to create a model that rivals the current intermediate trail with a clear offroad vocation such as the Yamaha XTZ700 Ténéré or KTM 790 Adventure R. A reasonable and increasingly booming market segment that is dazzling users fleeing the complications of a maxitrail.

Now, the question is what Aprilia plans to do with the Tuareg 660. One option is that in 2020 present the final Tuono 660 as a 2021 model and wait another year for its trail relative to appear, hitting the market in 2022, perhaps too late. Another alternative is that both coincide in 2021, overlapping, although this is not the usual way for Italians.

A final option would be for the Aprilia Tuareg 660 to appear away from the EICMA spotlight and receive a independent presentation. Something really unlikely although not impossible.

In any case, Aprilia is up to something and we are happy about it. Those of Noale want to break into the mid-market segment with force and that is always good news, because it means more motorcycles, more sales and more money to invest in new models.
