It has taken time, but in the end the new one has arrived BMW F 900 R. The German intermediate roadster is extensively renewed to try to postulate itself as an alternative to the best-sellers on the market based on a new engine and a family aesthetic with some daring touches.
The chassis is new, the technology is new and above all the engine arrives with more power than ever, breaking the barrier of the A2 license and positioning itself as a non-limiting block of 105 hp, although there will be a limited version.
BMW F 900 R: more engine but just as roadster
The aesthetic imprint of the BMW intermediate roadster can be seen to drink the waters of its older sister, the BMW R 1250 R. headlight is much more compact and look for the similarities including LED technology and being almost flush with the fork legs. The whole set looks more compact and much more current. A change that he already needed.
As in the average GS, now the fuel tank (from 13 liters) is in the traditional place and the space is used to introduce a lighter subframe to match a steel chassis that has been completely renewed. The main structure embraces the engine and uses it as a structural element.
The suspensions have been adapted to the new chassis and engine requirements with specific adjustments for the front inverted fork and rear monoshock.
In the mechanical section, the engine remains faithful to parallel twin, but this time it is renewed like the blocks of the BMW F 850 GS and F 750 GS did with a complete overhaul and a much higher solvency on paper.
The displacement rises from 853 cc to 895 cc and the ignition remains irregular (270º-450º) to achieve much better figures than it had until now, with 105 hp maximum power and a fuller torque curve, with a peak of 92 Nm. The exhaust line is also new and looks much more compact and lighter than before, keeping the silencer on the right side.
In the electronic section, the BMW F 900 R is more equipped than ever, now standard with two driving modes (Rain and Road), plus ASC and ABS. Through the packages you can access the Dynamic and Dynamic Pro modes with much more potential available and goodies such as dynamic traction control, ABS Pro and engine brake regulation.
All parameters will be controlled through the 6.5 inch digital dashboard that has gone viral at BMW and that has full connectivity and the ability to show GPS directions or manage calls or music playback.
Optionally, the BMW F 900 R can become one of the most equipped naked socks on the market with the possibility of mounting adaptive lighting, keyless start, electronic suspensions, emergency call or engine brake control. Although it remains to be seen at what price.
At the moment we do not know the availability of the BMW F 900 R, but it is expected that it will arrive in early 2020.
