In a triple overtake with eight laps to go, Carrasco moved into first position for the first time.
Carrasco tried to break the group and escape but the long straight and the slipstream prevented him from breaking the group. With five laps to go a scare on the front end made Ceheguín lose confidence and Deroue soon assumed the lead.
The exchanges in the lead followed one another throughout the rest of the race with the certainty that victory would be decided on the last lap, but Carrasco tried again and in the absence of three for the checkered flag the Murcian, but without luck once again.
On the last lap, Carrasco was excessively behind, while Deroue went after a Meuffels who we unexpectedly saw take first place. Despite all his efforts, Carrasco could only be fifth while Deroue snatched the victory from Meuffels on the same finish line.
