After having tried the Sym Jet14 125 LC, now we are going with something more elaborate within the 125 cc scooter family for the B license with 3 years of experience within the Asian firm. In this case we have tried the Sym Cruisym 125, a new model with good arguments to fight with the best sellers.
Setting its sights on the Kymco Grand Dink 125 and its smash track record, the Cruisym 125 tries to gain ground in search of grabbing a slice of that juicy pie from validated citizen scooters. Now, it is not a cheap scooter: it is average with reasonable equipment and really nice behavior.
Sym Cruisym 125: Total comfort for a very complete scooter
Genes are visible on the outside. The new Sym Cruisym 125 is an evolution of the previous Joymax from 2012; a radical evolution but an evolution after all. Along the way he has dispensed with part of his GT appearance to embrace a more sport concept, although without giving up all the comforts.
The shapes of the headlights, the bodywork in general, the seat and the handles remind us of its predecessor, although with a considerable update that makes the Cruisym a much more current scooter.
Highlights the LED lighting and halogen, the elaborate body shapes combining various colors and materials and a more aggressive overall line. Some plastics try to simulate texture or imitation of carbon fiber in, perhaps, an excess of elaboration that can end up being something imposted or with added elements such as the small duckbill under the headlights.
In front of us we find a mixed configuration dashboard that combines in the same plane a double analog sphere with the speed on the left and the revolutions on the right. Among them is a small LCD screen with the fuel level, engine temperature, hour clock and partials.
Its appearance despite not reaching the level of the top finishes of other brands is quite nice, with each of the elements divided into pentagonal structures that are quite well integrated. For asking, we would have liked some analog watches with a somewhat more careful aesthetic.
Although the finishes of the Sym Cruisym 125 do not shine especially in general lines, the set is quite satisfactory and above all very comfortable at its controls.
When we got to the controls of the Sym Cruisym, we noticed a scooter that was quite easy to access thanks to a seat height reduced to just 750 mm, perfect for short people like me. On the other hand, the central tunnel is quite high and the operation of going up or down may be somewhat complex for some users.
The Sym Cruisym 125 offers the driver some elements to take care of whoever chooses him as a companion on a day-to-day basis, such as a height adjustable windshield (although with a tool), a large glove compartment on the right side with a USB and 12v socket and a chest under the seat where you can leave two full-face helmets.
The opening of both the seat and the tank can be done remotely from the ignition lock, and in the hood we find a quite generous space for two full face helmets. Now, not all integrals will go well; If they are a bit bulky, they can force the seat to be tightened more than necessary, and may scratch the helmet or damage any of the ventilation.
The seat is really comfortable, with plenty of soft space to accommodate us with quite stretched legs. The hands fall naturally on the wide handlebars and the back is straight, with a double height of the seat that acts as a lumbar stop for the driver. The passenger has two large side handles and rubberized footpegs.
Docile and refined demeanor
The propeller is a single-cylinder four-stroke with a capacity of 124.5 cubic centimeters. Its thermodynamic section has been completely rethought with respect to that of the previous Joymax 125, including a new ceramic treatment to offer less wear, greater reliability and less consumption while maintaining a good figure of 14.3 hp power.
Sym is so sure of the tight consumption of its new engine that they have dispensed with the start & stop system that the previous Joymax did. Declares only 2, 8 liters per 100 km.
His demeanor is nice, quite nice indeed. The engine reacts with joy to the claims of the right grip without being eternal as it happens in other scooters of this profile. Although its power delivery is not enormous, it does fulfill its function as a solvent and consumption-adjusted means of transport to move around on a day-to-day basis.
Driving on the road it is capable of maintaining reasonable cruising speeds, with a peak that can exceed 110 km / h and that recovers well in a race launched at around 80 km / h. Now, when overtaking, it will be necessary to have everything well tied to take advantage of the engine's recovery, because near 100 km / h it is already difficult for him to gain speed.
In the brakes section we find a double disc distributed between both axles, with 260 mm on the front axle and 240 mm on the rear axle. In this case they are assisted by an ABS anti-lock system signed by Bosch instead of the mandatory combined braking for motorcycles up to 125 cc, which is a plus.
The operation of the brakes is correct, although it does not shine especially in any of the trains. Its behavior is correct, with a progressive bite, perhaps too little aggressive at some point in a hurry and with a Conservative abs, releasing pressure before the count especially on the rear disc.
Where it will be necessary to be some care is in the curves in which we take a greater incline. It is not your favorite terrain and it shows with elements that may touch before desired.
For their part, the suspensions perfectly fulfill the mission of a citizen scooter, with a pretty comfortable moron but that keeps all the reactions of the Cruisym at bay even when we hit faster roads. The double rear shock is a bit dry on curly asphalt or on speed bumps.
In general, the Sym Cruisym 125 stands out for its correct finishes, a solvent behavior and a ride comfort at the height of the best of the category in exchange for an acquisition cost in the average of its competition.
The price of the Sym Cruisym is 3,999 euros, a very competitive price that includes insurance with theft, fire and roadside assistance and a five-year warranty.
Putting it in perspective with its possible rivals, the one that is possibly closest to the Cruisym is the Kymco Grand Dink 125i, which is 300 euros cheaper (3,699 euros) and the Suzuki Burgman 125 (3,799 euros in promotion). In return, the Sym has more cargo space and an engine with slightly less vibrations, but a step behind in terms of overall finish.
Above we would already move on to other options such as the Yamaha X-Max 125 and Honda Forza 125, both for a price of 4,799 euros before the landing of the new Forza throughout the summer of 2018.
