Toprak Razgatlioglu is back in the battle for the World Cup. The Turkish rider stole Scott Redding's wallet on the last lap, with a brutal braking rush in which he blocked the Ducati Panigale V4 R. He took advantage of Jonathan Rea's double fall to get into the fight for the world championship.
The race was a complete chaos in which only twelve riders finished without crashes or breakdowns. Most significantly, that Jonathan Rea, the world leader, has gone down on two occasions. Unusual mistakes in the champion that reopen the battle for the world title. Tito Rabat also ended up on the floor.
Razgatlioglu remains thirteen points behind Rea in the general
In the classification Jonathan Rea kept the pole position, but with Razgatliglu and Scott Redding close together next to him. At the start the Turk managed to take the lead, while Redding was very nailed and Tom Sykes went straight into the first corner. Still, the Ducati did not lose rope.
Rea and Redding did not fall behind Razgatlioglu, predicting a duel to three between the big favorites for the title. Redding moved fast to overtake his two rivals and take command of the race. Michael Ruben Rinaldi was also pressing from behind to join the group.
Rea didn't want Redding to run away, so she attacked Razgatlioglu as well. From behind, Álvaro Bautista was running in eighth position, just ahead of his Honda teammate. We had fall of two illustrious world championships: Chaz Davies and Alex Lowes, that fell in the same curve but without touching.
The champion was beginning to take its toll on the effort. The tires were giving him problems, so much so that Razgatlioglu recovered his position, but Rea did not give up and resisted. Redding was taking advantage of all this to escape alone and put the direct for victory.
Then something worrisome happened. Jonas Folger blew out the engine of his BMW M 1000 RR, leaving the track watered with oil in some places. They waved the runway flags to warn the pilots. Despite his problems, Rea did not finish getting off Razgatlioglu, in a fight that went beyond this career.
Fall of Tito Rabat, who was left out of the race when he was well positioned in the point zone. The race was being extremely chaotic, because Loris Cresson was the ninth driver to have a crash or breakdown. And watch out ahead, because Redding's pace was starting to plummet.
Then came the big hit of the race. Jonathan Rea fell, second error of the season and something very unusual in the champion. The champion could at least get the bike up and back on track eleventh thanks to the scabechina that was being the test. Michael van der Mark was also scrubbing himself on the floor.
The most unusual happened next. Rea fell for the second time when he was eleventh, and also Razgatlioglu passed Redding, although pulling the power of the Ducati the Briton recovered. Victory for Toprak Razgatlioglu with an impressive braking speed on the last lap. Andrea Locatelli completes the podium.
