It had been rumored for a few months now and it has finally become a reality. While other brands flee the Supersport segment, Akashi continues to rely on medium-displacement sports bikes and launch the new Kawasaki ZX-6R Ninja.
Designed to contest the victory of the Yamaha YZF-R6 in the Supersport World Championship, the new ZX-6R introduces a good number of changes inherited directly from the ZX-10R with which Jonathan Rea has been proclaimed four times World Champion of Superbikes.

On the outside the ZX-6R Ninja gets even more aggressive, with a penetrating front cowl that closely resembles that of the ZX-10R with two polygonal headlights and a large central filler neck above them to capture as much air as possible for intake. The indicators are now integrated into the sides of the fairing.
The rear end retains the same general guidelines as before with a sharp rear tail, a passenger seat reduced to the minimum expression and an unmistakable driving position on the attack. Although to tell the truth, the aesthetic section reminds us quite of the Ninja 400.

Inside we find the same 636 cc in-line four-cylinder engine but now it complies with Euro 4 regulations. The measures introduced to comply with the emission requirements have increased its weight in running order to 196 kg but the power stays in some more than generous (and perhaps optimistic) 130 hp and 70.8 Nm of torque (136 hp with Ram-Air).

At the chassis level, the aluminum steel double-beam frame has been revised to allow it to be an even more precise machine, keeping that really massive asymmetric swingarm in the rear area. The suspensions used are an inverted fork Showa SFF-BP along with a monoshock from the Uni-Trak and an Öhlins steering damper (optional) to quell the front wheel's reactions.
The braking system has a powerful front axle with 310 mm double discs bit by Nissin monobloc radial anchor pliers and four pistons commanded by a radial master cylinder. A new assisted clutch has also been included to make its actuation even smoother, while maintaining the anti-skid system.
As usual in a good sports car, the Kawasaki ZX-6R Ninja is equipped with the latest available technology. The KQS semi-automatic transmission (only for upshift), the three-position adjustable KTRC traction control, the KIBS ABS and the two power maps (Full Power and Low Power) come standard on this latest batch of Supersport.
The scorecard It is also completely new with instrumentation that remains faithful to analogue for the rev clock while a double digital display shows all the necessary information (gear engaged, clock, state of the electronics, speed, fuel level, temperature, stopwatch., partial …
The Kawasaki ZX-6R Ninja will be available in two liveries (green / black / gray or black / black). There is still no estimated date for its arrival at the dealerships and no price, but we do know that there will be a Limitable version for the A2 card with a maximum of 97 hp and 59.8 Nm.
