Jonathan Rea is unrivaled in Portimao. The Superbike world champion has swept the first race on the Portuguese circuit from pole position. Only Toprak Razgatlioglu made the pretense of following him for a few laps, but had to give in to the relentless superiority of the Kawasaki.
The Turkish rider was alone in second position, so the excitement focused on third place. Scott Redding and Michael van der Mark fought for it, finally with success for the Yamaha in the face of the Ducati's problems. Álvaro Bautista made a bad classification and could only come back until he was ninth, although with a pretty good rhythm.
Redding suffered a lot on the tires and narrowly saved the lead

In the classification, Rea did not give a choice. He was intractable and made pole position, ready to run away from the start. And so he began to do it at the start. He started well and began to shoot very hard, but Toprak Razgatlioglu held him to wheel. The others could barely keep up, with Redding sixth.
Redding was stuck behind Alex Lowes and was looking for the gap to pass, as he saw how ahead not only were Rea and Razgatlioglu, but also Loris Baz and Michael van der Mark. After several attempts, the world leader managed to overtake the second Kawasaki and went in search of the podium.

Rea was definitely one step ahead. He was starting to leave Razgatlioglu, who in turn was also moving away from the group on the podium. The excitement remained between Baz, van der Mark, Redding and Lowes, who wanted to be third. Álvaro Bautista was already going up to ninth place, just behind Tom Sykes.
Van der Mark made a small mistake that sent him to the last position of the group, while Redding was already third with twelve laps to finish. Quickly the Dutchman also reacted to chase him, because it was clear that Baz was the slowest of the chasing group.

Seven turns from the end the one from Yamaha was going to Redding, who was beginning to suffer. Lowes and Michael Ruben Rinaldi were also beginning to get closer to the leader. And indeed four laps from the end it happened. The Ducati Panigale V4 R was without tires and trying to save the world lead.
Finally victory for Rea with concussion, who hits a good cut to Redding. From what we have seen, it seems that the Kawasaki man has everything to face to be the leader of Portugal. Second place for Razgatlioglu, third for van der Mark and Redding seventh, behind even Rinaldi and Baz. Bautista finished ninth and Xavi Forés fourteenth.
