We come back! Five months after the first round of the Superbike World Championship in Phillip Island and the competition had to stop abruptly due to the coronavirus, the World Championship of series derived motorcycles returns at the 脕ngel Nieto circuit from Jerez with renewed enthusiasm.

Jonathan Rea starts as the favorite for the victories by pure status, but what we saw in Phillip Island and in subsequent tests is that the equality is maximum. You could say that Yamaha, Ducati and Kawasaki are in a technical tie which the pilots are in charge of solving it. Rea looks for rivals.

Rea, Redding and Razgatlioglu hound Lowes' lead

There are three great candidates for victory. Jonathan Rea is doing very well in Jerez but last season he had his worst weekend of the year. He beat Alex Lowes in the first race, being penalized with starting last in the Superpole Race. He did not win a race and it was the weekend without cancellations in which he scored the fewest points.

But still Jerez is good for the Kawasaki. Top speed isn't that important and that's where we know that's where those in green suffer against the Ducati Panigale V4 R. Also, you have to take something into account. The world leader is Alex Lowes, the theoretical second Kawasaki rider but that surprised Rea on Phillip Island.

Another big favorite is Scott Redding. The British Ducati rider was not as fast as expected in Australia, but we have seen him very strong in the tests after confinement. It seems that the Ducati Panigale V4 R is less radicalized and more adapted to all circuits, so in Jerez they could defend themselves.

It should not be forgotten that last year 脕lvaro Bautista won two of the races in Jerez with Ducati, while in the other he fell leading. Those of Borgo Panigale can do well, as well as can the third favorite, Toprak Razgatlioglu. The new Yamaha figure wants to seriously fight for the title.

Razgatlioglu won the first race of the season at Phillip Island and was very unlucky in the second long test as a fault knocked him out of the race. But the Turk is pure fire and he is being able to measure himself with his Yamaha YZF-R1 both Rea and Redding, also in post-confinement tests.

As for the rest, they are expected to bother. The BMW goes very fast on a lap, at least in the hands of Tom Sykes, but it lacks constancy. They got super pole at Phillip Island and then the 2014 champion held out the first few laps in the leading group, but ended up slipping too early.

For Honda, the goal is to keep making progress. The stoppage of the coronavirus has been a chore for a brand that needs to test its Honda CBR1000RR-R a lot. In principle, Jerez is not the best circuit to take advantage of their top speed, but at Phillip Island they were closer than expected, especially with Leon Haslam.

脕lvaro Bautista needs to improve, especially on one lap, as he is constantly being overtaken by Haslam there. By the way, there will be a sixth track record in Jerez. Aprilia will race as a wildcard with the Nuova M2 Racing team and with Christophe Ponsson as the pilot. The Aprilia RSV4 FW-GP will roar at the 脕ngel Nieto circuit.

There will be two races in both Supersport and Supersport 300

Going to the way to follow the races, DAZN continues to be the holder of the broadcasting rights of the World Superbike Championship. But there are other alternatives. Eurosport will always broadcast the races live on its online platform, although it will sometimes be delayed on analogue channels.

Too RTVE owns part of the rights, but they will only broadcast some live sessions. LaLigaSporstsTV, TV3 and the Superbikes videopass are other options to follow the races online. The schedules will be the European customary and we will have double Supersport and Supersport 300 races.
