Fabio Quartararo continues to set the pace in the MotoGP tests in Sepang. The French rider made his debut today at the controls of a Yamaha M1 without decoration but the result has been the same: best time of the day, this time stopping the clock at 1: 58.572, four tenths faster than what he did yesterday.
'El Diablo' beat an inspired Jack Miller by 69 thousandths, which has been very strong again with the Ducati del Pramac. For now, two days of testing and both times both the strongest Yamaha and Ducati have been satellites, always embodied in the figures of Fabio Quartararo and Jack Miller.
Pedrosa, 90 thousandths from being the fastest in a MotoGP session again
And pay attention to who finished third, because it was none other than Dani Pedrosa. KTM tester is flying in Sepang. It was already the fastest of the first two days of shakedown, but today, with the entire grid already on the track, it was only 90 thousandths of being the fastest of the day. Impressive. And also Pol Espargaró has been eighth.
His former teammate has suffered the most, Marc Márquez, who has had the first crash of the year, fortunately without consequences. Still, the champion was the fastest of the Honda riders, finishing ninth, while his brother Álex Márquez finished seventeenth, but again being the best rookie.
The Suzuki, whose pending subject for this 2020 was precisely the speed of one lap, are still quite high. Today Joan Mir was the fastest of the Blues in Sepang, finishing fourth, one tenth of Quartararo. For his part, Álex Rins set the seventh fastest time of the day, behind Maverick Viñales.
The official Yamaha at the moment are taking these first official tests in stride. Viñales used to be one of those who was in the ointment for the better times, but he is very relaxed. Valentino Rossi, for his part, finished tenth today, just behind Marc Márquez. Once again, Franco Morbidelli, in addition to Quartararo, has been in front of both.
They are not doing much in the official Ducati team either. Danilo Petrucci was the fastest, thirteenth, two positions ahead of Andrea Dovizioso and six tenths behind Quartararo. What's more, Johann Zarco is still upset by the performance of his Avintia, and today he was nineteenth.
Finally, in Aprilia they have a problem. It seems that your new 2020 RS-GP does work, although there is still a lot to roll, but Bradley Smith is not up to the task. The theoretical substitute for Andrea Iannone was last, even behind the test Yamaha and almost two seconds behind Aleix Espargaró, eleventh.
