With the 2019 titles already in the hands of Tim Gajser in MXGP and Jorge Prado in MX2, the seventeenth round of the Motocross World Championship calendar has not let up the excitement and, once again, Jeffrey herling He has taken the steamroller out for a walk.
After having been out of 13 of the 16 events that have been contested this season for months, Herlings stormed into Turkey with the firm intention of winning … and swept. In MX2 Jorge Prado He already has his second crown in his pocket and to celebrate it he has walked scoring another double in Turkey.
Jeffrey Herlings returns for his privileges in MXGP
The first MXGP outing started with Pauls jonass placing himself in first position chased by Glenn Coldenhoff, Jeffrey Herlings, Jeremy Seewer and Tim Gajser. Herlings already showed signs of being recovered in the previous round, but in Turkey he arrived to show who is the fastest rider in the world.
In the first round Coldenhoff took the lead and it didn't take long for Herlings to overtake Husqvarna's. Behind Tim Gajser made a mistake in a series of linked jumps and suffered a fall from fourth to fourteenth place.
Coldenhoff did not hold too much at the head and had to surrender to the push of a Herlings that despite not being 100% knew how to manage a route with more and more potholes. The Dutchman got enough advantage to ensure that even a slight fall was not enough for Jonass to win the position.
With Jonass glued back to his wheel, Herlings got up and shot again until they were again victorious with a 5-second lead over Jonass and 15 over Coldenhoff.
For the second race the holeshot fell into the hands of Jeremy seewer, although the lead did not last more than a couple of corners until Coldenhoff passed him on the outside and Herlings pressed him on the inside.
After a mistake, Seewer ended up buried by his motorcycle and Gajser stayed in third position until he also suffered a (new) fall, although he got up to regain third place after recovering two positions and extinguishing the illusion of Ivo Monticceli.
Coldenhoff held the lead until the last lap when Herlings performed one of his wild maneuvers, forcing the rear wheel to pull, combing the linked jumps and achieving an exaggerated speed.
After passing Coldenhoff there was not much left, but Herlings pulled just enough to outpace him in 2 seconds and scoring his first one-two of the season and the first victory of the year for a driver who has endured one of the hardest years of his career.
