We spoke with María Herrera, another woman who makes motorcycling history: "I want to beat them all"

The Toledo competes in the Supersport championship, of which two tests have already been held, the first in Australia and the second in Thailand, and was kind enough to attend Motorpasión-Moto.

María Herrera made history in the second race, the one held in Buriram. On the back of his Yamaha he managed to finish in fifteenth position, adding his first point in the category. In this way, Herrera became the first woman to score in three different categories: Moto3, Supersport 300 and now also in Supersport.

Maria also became the second woman to score in the history of the World Cup of Supersport 600, only behind the Italian Paola Cazzola, which he did in 2010. In spite of everything, Herrera is clear that "what I am looking for are not records, they are the top positions". And he adds: "it is good to take the woman up, but I am not looking to be a pioneer in anything. I am looking to win the first one."

Asked about the difficulty of adapting to so many different motorcycles and score with them, María explains that "the Moto3 has a stiffer chassis, it allows you a better cornering than the Supersport, both the 300 and the 600, which in the end is a street bike and you look a little more limited. "Herrera is making Supersport history, as is Ana Carrasco, who won Supersport 300 in 2018.

Although she does not seek to be a pioneer in anything, the truth is that she has succeeded. In 2013 it was the first woman to win a race of the Spanish Speed Championship. He got it in Aragon, beating on the same checkered flag to Jorge Navarro, current pilot of Moto2. That same year, María Herrera became world leader in the last race, but a fall decided the current Petronas Yamaha rider's headline in MotoGP, Fabio Quartararo.

In the Moto3 World Championship, María even rode to four brands and six different teams in five years, counting the appearances as wild cards. His best season was his first full, in 2015, when he scored nine points with a Husqvarna. Also that year he achieved his best career result, an eleventh in Australia.

After her unfortunate stint in Moto3, María tested with Yamaha in Supersport in 2018, and there she has settled. This year has made the leap to Supersport 600, and although the beginning has been convulsed, it has already managed to make history. The Yamaha with which María Herrera participates in the Supersport championship is the YZF-R6 derived from the street, with four cylinders and 599cc. The same one used by Jules Cruzel, winner of the Buriram race in which María made history, although in a different team.

"In Thailand things were simpler." Despite arriving with greater preparation, scoring in Buriram It was not easy at all for María Herrera: "It was very hot and the brakes fell apart. We had a lot of brake problems. I had to go off track to cool them down"Some problems that did not stop her from looking for her first point.

Now the championship comes to Europe, specifically to Spain with the career of Motorland. María Herrera is very optimistic and affirms that " Aragon I like it a lot, if we get the set-up fast I can do it well ".
