It seems that after the storm calm always comes. Less than a month ago, the news broke that a surprising separation was coming to the MotoGP World Championship: the one with Michael Bartholemy and the Marc VDS Racing. The team had fired the former sports director and the press had leaked that it was for an alleged embezzlement.
The future of the Moto2 team, which had Bartholemy to its name, was up in the air at the time and it was even feared that the Spanish riders Alex Marquez and Joan Mir run out of mounts mid-season. In the end it has not been like that and they have managed to reach an agreement.
Van der Straten takes command in Moto2
On a joint statementBoth Marc van der Straten and Michael Bartholemy have wanted to make it clear that the break is produced by having different strategic approaches. The owner of the team will now be the one who assumes command in the Moto2 team and they will no longer go through the courts to resolve the situation, as the former sports director had assured after not understanding his dismissal.
With this solution, made by mutual agreement, none of the Belgian's teams will be affected by the change and they will be able to continue opting to be Yamaha satellite equipment counting on a different sports director. As van der Straten points out in his writing, their objective is to focus on increasing their successes, which they could do with a project like the one Tech3 had with the tuning fork factory, which would place them a notch above what they have now with Honda.
The owner of Marc VDS Racing also wanted to defend Bartholemy from "the complaints published in the press, especially in relation to an alleged embezzlement, "burying the hatchet that both had held up to now.
Bartholemy for his part does not close the door to appear in some other team, admitting that he wants to take on a new challenge. As Marc VDS manager, Bartholemy has won two titles of the intermediate category: that of Tito Rabat in 2014 and that of Franco Morbidelli last season. Without a doubt, with his good work, he will not be short of girlfriends.
