The circuit Redsand from Valencia has hosted this past weekend the third appointment of the MXGP World Championship, an event in which we have once again vibrated with spectacular races and in which the KTM riders have once again captured all the victories distributed, accumulating 100% effectiveness so far in 2018.
In the MXGP category the veteran Antonio Cairoli He has scored the two wins while Jeffrey Herlings has had to row to save the furniture. For its part, Pauls jonass He has once again commanded with an iron hand in MX2, but with a Jorge Prado who is consolidated in his second season, he has already risen to third place overall.
Antonio Cairoli regains the leadership of MXGP
Antonio Cairoli He is finding the most fearsome opponent in his teammate Jeffrey Herlings, but this weekend the Italian arrived in Valencia ready to break the Dutchman's streak and regain the lead in the general classification.
When lowering the door of the first sleeve it was Romain Febvre who took the Holeshot. Cairoli, Desalle and Gajser were placed at his wheel. Herlings lagged behind, having to fight to get into the top 5 for the first few laps.
For seven laps Febvre stayed in the lead until Cairoli saw fit, passing Yamaha's and starting to make a hole. Herlings Meanwhile he had already managed to pass Seewer through fourth place and a lap later he reached and gave a good account of Desalle for third place.
With Cairoli at the forefront, Herlings went into brown beast mode, even subtracting up to two seconds per lap from his teammate and Febvre. With four laps to go Herlings was in second, but the gap to the leader was too wide, leaving the victory in the hands of Cairoli by 4.6 seconds over Herlings.
In the second sleeve it was Cairoli who got into first position upon reaching the first corner, a position he would temporarily abandon in favor of Paulin. It was precisely in the first corner that Herlings lost practically all options when he fell and had to lift his bike, passing the first lap in ninth position.
But Herlings He does not give his arm to twist and showed why he arrived in Valencia wearing the number with a red background. In the fourth lap, 84 had already overtaken Butrón, Van Horebeek, Coldenhoff and Gajser. Meanwhile, the duel between Febvre and Desalle for third place favored the arrival of Herlings, who passed him on lap 7 and Desalle on the next.
Five laps later Herlings got behind Paulin and passed him without remorse. With six laps to go Herlings did his best to close the gap with Cairoli but the Italian crossed the finish line alone with 1.8 seconds ahead of Herlings.
In this way Cairoli regains lead overall, but tying on points with Herlings, both with 141 points, showing that their form is extraordinary. In third position is Desalle with 103, followed by Febvre with 101 and Paulin with 98 points.
