It does not matter what style they present, that the transformations, preparations and even the construction of unique motorcycles exploded a few years ago to be trend it has come in handy for all lovers of two wheels. Although they are not usually the most abundant, every little bit, some brave dares with some type design streamliner, full-fairing spawns focused on a aerodynamics that may perplex you.
One of the latest design projects with the most famous full fairing (which tend to remain precisely like this: as mere projects that do not see the light), which has finally been manufactured is the BMW Alpha, a land shark with mechanical BMW K75 that lives and hunts in the salt flats of Bonneville, in Utah. A unique specimen whose favorite food is speed.
The great mechanical white shark
The BMW Alpha was just a design exercise like so many others from the Istanbul-based Turkish designer Mehmet Doruk Erdem, which has in its history a few of those exercises dedicated to streamliners, until the concept was adopted on the other side of the world by Mark atkinson, one of the church's convinced parishioners of the speed of the Bonneville Speed Week, the ideal habitat for those who enjoy rolling rockets. Wonders of Synergy of the Modern Age: Internet.
Atkinson usually builds something new for each new edition of the cult of speed that is celebrated in the most famous salty desert in the world (he makes his engines from a raw block of aluminum) and this time it was the Chinese Alpha of Mehmet, who came to his own project a few months later that the American had started it, although this time with the adoption of the mechanics 75hp 740cc three-cylinder engine from the mid-1980s BMW K75owned by Utah, rather than starting from scratch for the propellant. This allowed Atkinson to focus on other details of the project.
Communication today has no limits and after the first contact and seeing that Atkinson was serious, the two began, a mormon yankee and a turkish muslim, in the common project, sharing everything related to the Alpha every day, adding ideas together and advancing the BMW Alpha towards its amazing final form.
The big ones white sharks they have always been an inspiration for the Turkish designer, who decided to imitate his anatomy. So its front, where we can see the gills, is clean, aerodynamic and smooth, while the back it is "the side that symbolizes the shark's tail", its power. There is no style connection between both parties, the pilot must be that connection between beauty and beast. Atkinson is that connection.
Almost a year and a half after the continuous feedback (Atkinson was building individual parts, sending photos to Istanbul, where Mehmet 3D modeled and refined them by computer, and returned the polished design to Utah) was born the Alpha, the beautiful speed predator for the Bonneville endemic straight line.
After hard work and many hours a day dedicated above all to the manufacture of a chassis focusing on the K75 engine, a address control unit based on a design by the engineer Jean Michel-Theirs that uses a pair of small hydraulic cylinders and gives the streamliner the almost zero turning angle it needed and the fairing complete with carbon and basalt, both designers fulfilled their obsession: lighting the spectacular and unique BMW Alpha. Just seeing it makes you want to live at the foot of a salt flat.
