Having been flirting with the Honda Forza 125 In an urban environment it is time to see what the new and promising four-valve cylinder head engine is capable of and how a scooter that wants to be embedded within the Gran Turismo category performs in general.
Normally we are used to the 125 offering us a fairly fair performance in intercity trips but that is precisely where Honda has put their thinking heads to work to achieve something better than what was on the market so far. A difficult challenge of course.
Honda Forza 125: small GT
The truth is that when it comes to going out on the open road, it shows all the hours of work that a lot of Japanese engineers have invested in developing the Honda Forza 125. The performance of a 125 scooter is always questioned but the new four-valve cylinder head get us to travel on fast roads without entering a state of panic, dying of fear or falling prey to frustration.
In fact, a short time after taking the controls we went along a stretch of highway, one of many toll roads in Barcelona, and the performance is more than decent to speak of a small one-eighth-liter engine. The truth is that we hit the road with almost no indication from the Honda people, they decided that it was better not to suggest us by telling us anything. They preferred that we test drive the Honda Forza 125 first and then get the relevant talk. Quite a success.
After a short aperitif you have to stop at a tollbooth and as the barrier rises you open the throttle and start to take speed with determination. Slowly but surely, until you reach about 90-100 km / h which would be your comfort speed. If we want to go faster, now is when a 125 would falter and we could only increase speed if the tailwind or a favorable slope helped us, but by opening full throttle the little Forza little by little continues to gain speed and is able to keep a flat on the ground. cruising 110 km / h exceeding 120 if conditions allow it.
At that speed the wind is already noticeable, and the screen plays a fundamental role in ensuring a comfortable ride. In its lowest position the air passed just over my shoulders, but raising it to its highest position covered a good part of the helmet. The legs are completely protected from the air thanks to the shield and it also diverted almost all the air that goes to the hands. Nor do we suffer from vibrations that indicate that the engine is about to remove the liver through the mouth, it is a good candidate if we have to do a few kilometers on the highway every day.
Honda Forza 125: amazing performance
Abundant on the subject of performance, to give you an idea, we went up a section of mountain road near the city of Barcelona where we went with the gas fully open most of the time, and if the engine was breathing At the top of our lungs it was because we were going a lot faster than you might think on a scooter. There we put the propellant reaction capacity, and preparing the maneuver a little in advance, we were able to make three overtaking cars that were slower than us.
I repeat: going up. The new four-valve cylinder head looks great. Being able to have used the two-valve cylinder head, saving themselves labor and money, they have preferred to create a new cylinder head for a model that will not even be marketed globally. If they have done so, it is because they were very clear about it and the truth is that it is appreciated that big brands risk things like that. The performance generated by the small engine fulfills a lot of dignity and surprises.
Regarding consumption, it declares 2, 29 liters at 100 and the orderly on board at the end of the day I marked an average of 2.4 liters. A very positive figure that is very close to reality considering that much of the day we were full gas. The rest of the teammates drew 2.6-2.8 liters, probably due to the differences in size and weight. Something good had to be my short stature and 65 kilos.
But Honda Forza 125 It is not only the scooter to use with the B license with the best pure benefits, it goes further. On that road of good firmness and full of curves, the good work that keeps the chassis and suspensions inside. In any small displacement scooter we usually think that anything goes, but nothing is further from the truth, we find a set-up that does not protest in the least.
In the sections of curves linked with good support, I was not able to find a trace of the typical suspension flapping, or notice how the chassis twists when braking and putting the bike into a corner. Without a doubt, the cycle part would be able to digest even greater benefits.
The brakes comply with guarantees thanks to a set formed by brake discs both front and rear (256 mm and 240 mm respectively) and equipped with ABS as standard. Both have more than enough power to contain the onslaught of the performance of the Honda Forza 125 and with a very pleasant touch. For everyday use you can use one or the other interchangeably. There is also a version without ABS but it will not reach the Spanish market.
For misfortune, he Honda Forza 125 It would not be a real candidate for me if I wanted a 125 scooter. It is beyond my budget with its 4,799 euros, but you have to put yourself in the place (who could!) of a person who looks for the best option among motorcycles to use with the B license and values the design, performance, technology, efficiency and finishes above the price to leave the BMW X6 at home.
Thinking about it coldly and putting envy aside, it is a play that can turn out very well, we will see what the market says. But of course the Honda Forza 125 is a great 125 scooter.
