An hour and a half late. That is the time we have had to wait to be able to see the outcome of the second race of the World Superbikes held on the American circuit of Miller Motorsports Park. And it is that in the first laps, when already Carlos Checa He dominated and escaped, he went through the floors Hiroshi aoyama causing (unintentionally, my poor man) the red flag, which I don't know will have released his bike, but for a good while we had to wait for the track to be cleaned. After this wait, a new eighteen-lap race and what no one wanted to happen happened. Again Carlos escaped, with more than a second and a half on his pursuer, but he was on the ground with thirteen laps to go and ended up dropping out of the race. Undoubtedly a shame with how well he painted the scene and the great opportunity considering that it is his talisman circuit.
But it is the turn to congratulate the winner, who has been none other than Marco Melandri, and that he has worked it out from start to finish. He has done two runs, and the end of this second race shows that the Italian is in very good shape and that he does not need a motorcycle to be in the fight. What power of the Bmw! He has accompanied him on the podium Jonathan Rea in second place, with whom he has had a formidable fight, and Max Biaggi, that without making much noise, he takes home two third places that are not bad for him for the championship. And this year Max is being very regular, and it shows. By the way, special mention also on the cover for Chaz Davies, who was fourth, achieving his best result in the category.
After the mandatory stoppage, the start was made with the grid formed as they had gone through the last full lap before the red flag, so that Carlitos started from the most privileged position. The traffic light went out and Melandri came out perfectly, who was placed first followed by Checa himself, Tom Sykes, Davies, Biaggi, Rea and Davide Giugliano. But it wouldn't take long for Carlos to take the lead and start setting a hellish pace. Meanwhile, Rea and Biaggi were climbing positions calmly but without pause. And so five laps have passed, until our bull was on the ground, leaving Melandri in first position followed by a surprising Chaz. Although yes, Jonathan was already out of control, to the point that it stuck to Marco's tail in just a few laps.
And so we reach the middle of the race, when Rea overtakes Melandri, and he seems to deflate, being also overtaken by Davies and overtaken by Biaggi. But the Italian BMW has taken a lot of confidence and despite the fact that Rea had put land in the middle, He has not given up at any time and has continued pulling to the maximum until the last breath. Thus we have reached the last rounds of heart attack, with Rea and Melandri fighting for victory, and with Davies and Biaggi fighting for the third step of the podium. The first fight was resolved with a brutal pass from Marco on Jonathan as they entered the last lap, unleashing all the horses of the BMW. And although the British tried afterwards in the twisted zone, Marco has managed to close all the gaps and get his second victory of the season and the second for the German brand, relegating Rea to second place.
In the other fight I was commenting on, it took a lot of work for the pirate to get rid of the highly motivated Chaz Davies, and only with three laps to go has Max managed to make the final overtaking that has allowed him to get away a little from the fighter Chaz. Thus, the commented third place for Biaggi and a more than excellent fourth place for Davies. Behind the great protagonists and already much further away, Sykes have arrived in fifth place, Eugene laverty (of which I am still expecting a lot more) in the sixth, Giugliano in the seventh and a gray Leon haslam in the eighth. In the dropouts and falls section, unfortunately we find Carlos and David Salom, in addition to Lorenzo Zanetti, Niccolo Canepa and Hiroshi Aoyama who did not start in the second part of the test.
In the general classification we did find a big change, and with this victory, Marco Melandri is second in the table with 142, 5 points, eighteen behind Max, which now has 160, 5 points. Third is Tom Sykes with the same points as Marco and fourth Rea, while Carlitos drops to fifth position in the table, staying thirty points behind the lead.
And so far this peculiar Monday of races, which even make this always dismal day more bearable. In the end, one of lime and another of sand, but the truth is that we have really enjoyed both races, and although in this second we have not had much luck, we have also enjoyed a beautiful show. Now it's time to wait until June 10th, that the World Superbike will return to the circuit of Misano Adriatico. There will be a lot of emotion again for sure and the category of Supersport, let's not forget it. At the moment, the thing is between Italians, and now on we go to his house. Let's see how we escape from there …
