Has he put it on as a hat?

In addition to the races of Superbikes last weekend in Assen, the lucky ones who were on the circuit could see live the debut of the KTM EJC or what is the same, the KTM European Junior Cup of which we already spoke to you a few months ago.

I really wanted to see the times because I was sure that the KTM 690 Duke prepared in collaboration with Jeremy McWilliams it was going to shine at a great level. Just by looking at the numbers 140 kilos, 79 horses and fearless chavalines from 14 to 19 years old already promised but there were also other things against them: naked bikes, single cylinder engines and pilots with little experience compared to the rest of the categories. And to finish the job, the weather in Holland only helped the tulips to bloom because what is for racing …

KTM European Junior Cup

No chance to make a comparison Between all the times of the different sessions since when some ran dry, others did it in the wet, we can only keep the fast laps in the race although taking into account one small detail and that is the category of Superstock 600 ran dry (cold but dry) while the KTM European Junior Cup it had to be even delayed by the rain although in the end, they were able to go out on the track with dry tires (not slicks) and with damp on the asphalt.

Still, the best lap of Superstock 600 was made by Alex Schacht (Honda CBR600RR) with a better time 1’41.860 (160, 526km / h). The winner, Michael Van Der Mark (also with a Honda CBR600RR) invested to complete the twelve laps of the race a total of 20'36.504 at an average speed of 158, 685km / h (54, 504km in total).

At the premiere of the kids of the KTM European Junior Cup, the best lap in the race was for the winner, Adrian Pasek, with a time of 1’52.494 (145, 351km / h) while the seven laps of the race were completed in 13'20.932 at an average speed of 142, 906km / h.

I think that in the next races, with the kids already more attached to their bikes and without time playing tricks on them. will be even closer to the times of Superstock 600. And this says a lot about the true potential of the KTM 690 Duke “Track”, both for how much fun they can be on the track and how much time they can get.

Finally, if you want a more realistic comparison, the Jeremy McWilliams filmed in Cartagena while tuning the bikes with the basic settings for all the riders in a time of 1’41.9 and the fast lap there given by the pilots of Spanish Manchego Speed Championship Supersport in 2011 it was 1’39.5. As we say in Asturias: put my head in it …

Ah, we have a good Spanish representation in the KTM European Junior Cup: Gaston Garcia (was seventh), Javier Orellana (eighth), Christian Vidal (tenth) and Sergio Manzaneque (fifteenth). Good luck for everybody!
