We have badly started the first round of World Superbike Championship 2012 on Phillip Island since the first Superpole has had to be canceled after the race that was previously running corresponding to the Superstock 600 category of the Australian Superbike Championship, local pilot Oscar McIntyre passes away. The activated emergency protocols force you to delay the departure of the three sessions of the superpole and in the end the decision was made to cancel it permanently.
The times of the second timed practice session in which the fastest had been the British were therefore considered valid. Tom sykes (Kawasaki ZX 10 R) with a best time of 1'31.323. Behind him stood the 2012 2010 champion, the Italian Max biaggi and his flying Aprilia RSV4 Factory, which set a top speed on the Phillip Island Straight of no less than 323.7 km / h.
In third position and leading the Ducati 1098 R trio we find the current world champion, Carlos Checa, with a time of 1'31.621, less than three tenths behind Sykes, followed by Jakub Smrz and Frenchman Sylvain Guintoli, at 460 and 509 thousandths.
During training yesterday and today there have been several falls with major or minor consequences. Jonathan Rea (Honda CBR 1000 RR) forced his mechanics to do the work against the clock although he finished in eighth place. Chaz Davies (ParkinGO Aprilia) was not so lucky and injured his wrist so he will miss tomorrow's race. Lastly, Eugene Laverty (Aprilia RSV4 Factory) and Leon Haslam (BMW S 1000 RR) were noticed that they were touched from yesterday's crashes and closed the day in eleventh and twelfth place.
To the other two Spaniards in the category, Joan Lascorz (Kawasaki ZX-10R) and David salom (Kawasaki ZX-10R), caught them off the hook, qualifying in sixteenth and nineteenth position.
