Piaggio MP3 400 LT, test (valuation and technical sheet)
Piaggio MP3 400 LT, test (valuation and technical sheet)

To end the test of the Piaggio MP3 400 LT that we have brought you this week, let's talk about some peculiarities that have remained in the inkwell before moving on to the final conclusions of what this scooter has seemed to us during the week that Vespa Gijón gave us its test unit.

Like good Piaggio, the Piaggio MP3 400 LT has a double compartment under the seat. On the one hand, the typical hole that is accessed by lifting it and also, the one located as a rear trunk (or trunk as they say around there) communicated with the first and that we allows to carry long objects such as a blueprint holder or an umbrella. Regarding the capacity of helmets, take a full-face helmet perfectly in the main area and behind, a jet type or I would even dare to say that also an integral one if the shell is not excessively large.

The hole is not upholstered and has lighting as well as a 12-volt socket. It also comes with a cover for the seat (ideal to leave it covered in areas that can get dirty or rainy days) very practical since it is hooked at the bottom at one end and we only have to pull it to remove it from its place and place it by means of an elastic, re-attaching when we keep it by means of a tape. One of the things I didn't test was yes I took a whole ham, although I think so, that we could take it without problems.

There are no more slides (a front glove compartment is missing for example) although in the shield we have a hook to carry bags. Nor is it that it is too comfortable since the platform is not flat but is divided in two by the fuel tank (its access is between our legs). And speaking of the legs, although the posture is very comfortable, the brake pedal limits our possibilities to move or place the right foot in another position since it leaves us without approximately a third of the site we have on the other side.

To access the hood under the seat and to the back, we have two remote push buttons in the center of the handlebars, one for each. These buttons are always activated unless we block the address so we have to remember when we park the Piaggio MP3 400 LT to carry out this operation because if they cannot open it and steal what we have underneath. The truth is that I would have liked more that the buttons stopped working when, for example, the key was not detected in the lock since that way we could leave the motorcycle parked in a garage without being obliged to always block its direction. All the convenience of not having to use the easel is almost lost by this detail.

From the lock itself, the lid of the tank is opened, which is, as we mentioned before, on the platform, right between our legs. To do this we just have to press and turn to the side. If we do it to the other, we will open the trunk. During the test, the average consumption at medium-high pace with city and highway-highway it was approximately 6 liters per hundred although in a more normal use, it will be easy not to reach these figures. Even so, with the twelve liters of tank, its theoretical autonomy would reach us 200 kilometers.

Reviewing what he had told you, I saw that he had not said that the suspension is quite stiff, especially in front. It is noticeable when driving over potholes or gutters. In addition, it is more difficult to avoid them since with the two wheels, it is sometimes impossible to avoid them. Likewise, behind and with the standard preload, driving fast on the highway with sharp bumps, I almost reached the top, so it is advisable if the use of duo is assiduous, increase the hardness of the shock absorbers a little.

Finally and to finish, I will tell you that lighting is effective enough on the highway. It is not designed to go with her on lost roads on a dark night but rather on ring roads that usually have some lighting or the like, although if you choose the first option, something that I logically did during the test, you can circulate with total safety..

The question I asked myself until I tried it was why in Spain this model is not very successful and in France is full of them. In the south, that the weather is more benevolent with the motorcycle, I would understand it, but in the northern communities, I do not quite understand it. After having tried it, I have already found the answer to the question: the French are a little more cerebral when acquiring their motorcycles. For a little more you have the advantages of a scooter infinitely safer than a normal one.
