The little time that I had the Honda CBR 600 F between my legs does not allow me to find all the ins and outs, qualities, defects and behaviors that it enjoys or lacks. Just let me analyze the basics without being able to go very deep, although at least we get a little idea. It was a touchdown after two hours of testing with the Honda Crossrunner, which left me initially unsettled, thinking that I had forgotten to drive sports cars, with a tighter steering angle and a driving position with limited comfort.

At first glance you can see a very small motorcycle and at first I thought they had made a mistake bringing the CBR 250 R. But I saw that it kept up well with the 800cc Honda Crossrunner engines so I stopped worrying. Up on it, everything is very compact: small semi-handlebars, footrests not too far set back, seat not very high and close to the handlebar, short wheelbase and a small tank. In summary, a motorcycle a bit "aPedrosada", of very small measures. I'm a bit long-legged, it's not that it was uncomfortable, but I would have appreciated a little more space to move more freely.

Of course, a concept of these minimistic characteristics also it has its advantages: greater handling when it comes to small and / or twisty spaces and a significant improvement in terms of stability when cornering. In addition, the user who is of little corpulence will also have it easier to control a motorcycle of 206 Kg since the distribution of weights is very well worked by the Honda engineers.

Now, let's go for the propellant, the soul of the CBR 600. Honda has always endowed its CBR 600 F with an important balance between sportiness and versatility, making it not stand out in a specific aspect but in the overall calculation of its characteristics it is always a very versatile and efficient motorcycle, very efficient. But I'm very afraid that this time They have exceeded in wanting to make a motorcycle that complies in all its aspects. I explain.

This new Honda CBR 600 F uses the same engine as the Honda Hornet CB 600 F. It is a motor with good performance, great reliability and smoother than that of the Honda CBR 600 RR but with too tame a power delivery. From my point of view and having tried it for a short time, I consider that it is not an engine that fits within the myth of the CBR 600 F. Although it is not the R version of the Honda Supersport, its power delivery is a bit poor and its media do not push what is expected of him. I did not get to screw the throttle much so I cannot describe its final delivery.

Leaving for the end the possible strategies of Honda on this CBR 600 F and my opinion about what I think is not being very logical within the brand's approach, it is also worth mentioning that its driving, handling and comfort, in general terms, is very well. It is a motorcycle with very good poise and that with its small dimensions provides great stability when cornering. Aerodynamic protection is fair, It does not quite cover the pilot, although the dome, with a discreet double bubble, does make an effort so that the air does not affect the driver fully. The brakes, although effective, would be even more so if the three-piston caliper used for the version were used. C-ABS. The suspensions, being the same as the Honda Hornet CB 600 F they work well, absorbing the irregularities of the asphalt well and providing a good poise to the whole.

At this point, I have a very personal opinion that may or may not like it, but I've been thinking about it since I got off the bike and I would like to present it and know what you think. I would not have needed to test the bike since it is a reflection made from its technical characteristics so it would not hurt to know what you think on the subject. So, there it goes:

From my point of view, and it is my particular opinion, Honda has a spare model. The new Honda CBR 600 F can be a good motorcycle for the guys who get on their own Honda CBR 250 R or any other, since it is a very very docile, smooth, quiet and aesthetic motorcycle riding a sports car without the touch plus R. And if you look closely, it is the evolution of the saga: it begins in the Honda CBR 125 R, pass by the CBR 250 R and comes to the new CBR 600 F. So it might make sense, but I don't see it that way.

Returning to the topic, Honda has a spare model. And with all due respect, all these characteristics that we have named about the Honda CBR 600 F, except the fact that it has a fairing, is fulfilled by its naked sister, the Honda Hornet CB 600 F, also called Hornet. Same engine, same chassis, same suspensions and almost identical exhaust. Even the riding position is practically the same, with 800mm of clearance from the ground to the saddle and from the saddle to the handlebars. Of course, without fairing, because you also have to have a naked model now that the market for this type of motorcycle is booming. So either the Honda CBR 600 F is here again to green its laurels and help sell the Honda CBR 600 RR or honestly, leftover among Honda models.

The user who wants a six hundred sports car, the logical model is the Honda CBR 600 RR while the user who wants a six hundred calmer and more docile step can be perfectly the Honda CB 600 F. It was not necessary to put a fairing. I think the reissue of the legendary CBR is based more on a theme of marketing to re-launch a highly successful model than to bring something new to the market since, as I said before, its naked sister is practically the same bike.
