Last week I accompanied a friend to buy some things to the town next to where he lives, and what was my surprise when I saw him leave the garage of his house mounted on his Velosolex to make the journey of just 4 km. Velosolex is a post-war French invention, and it is not really a moped, but a bicycle with an auxiliary motor. Since it was put on sale in 1946, it has the honor of having sold eight million units worldwide, mainly in Europe.
But as always there are those who want to go a step further, and in this case instead of mounting the engine on a bicycle, it has been mounted on a handmade chassis, in which you are not sitting on a saddle, but rather you are standing., something like a child's scooter. I see this Velosolex scooter more aesthetic than useful, but you will not deny that it has an incredible style.
In the meantime I think I'm going to ask my friend to leave me his Velosolex to go for a ride, and so I'll tell you what it is like to circulate at less than 20 km / h in the middle of the current traffic. Ah, it goes without saying that what we went to buy I had to pick it up the next day.
You can see a few more photos on the builder's website, Olli Erkkila.
