This time there were no hurricane force winds in Indianapolis. The races of the three categories could be held normally. Curiously, it was the most monotonous MotoGP race in recent times that left us with the most exciting championship. If a few days ago I wrote right here that this year's script reminded me of 2008, here there was an important third change.

The overall difference between Rossi and Lorenzo is 25 points with five races left in the season, leaving Jorge dependent on himself for the title. You "only" have to win all the races that remain. Well, let the imagination run wild, it would not stop being fun if the title was decided in Valencia: a circuit that does not seem to be good for either Valentino or Jorge. A point in common between the two. Well, here I leave you with my vision of the best and the worst of what happened in MotoGP in Indianapolis.

The best and the worst from the MotoGP race in Indianapolis:

The best:

  • Jorge Lorenzo's victory. In the end, it turned out to be one of the most placid victories for Jorge Lorenzo, as once Pedrosa and Rossi had fallen, he simply carried the bike to the end. But it had to be done. In the words of Lorenzo, "counting sheep so as not to be distracted." A victory that puts him back in the fight for the Championship and that made him regret at the moment of his "zeros" instead of "second positions".
  • Nicky Hayden got back on the podium. I admit that I was moved watching the celebration in the Ducati box: as if Nicky had won. Or more. First podium and first podium in recent years for an official Ducati that is not driven by Stoner. Agree that the podium was thanks to the falls and that I finished at a huge distance from the head. But you had to be there. And there was Hayden.
  • Aleix Espargaró's debut. Ironies of life. In the end, Aleix Espargaró's 2009 season is turning out to be the most interesting and fun. Some races on the 125 with good results. The development of the moto2. And now MotoGP with the Ducati. The one who must be on the nerves is Carmelo Ezpeleta: a few days ago he emphatically insisted that there would be no more than 4 Spanish riders in MotoGP in 2010. And although it is difficult, Aleix's debut implies the possibility of six! the Spanish riders in MotoGP if he were to stay and Toni found a mount. It is hard but not impossible. See what happens.
  • See Kevin Schwantz again on Suzuki. It doesn't matter if it was a symbolic walk. It was exciting to see Kevin again. After the race, I spent a while watching old videos on YouTube. It's worth it. It was really a very special time of the World 500. Bravo for Kevin.
  • Kenny Roberts doing Dirt Track on the Yamaha. Wow with "old" Kenny (don't stop looking at the photo). And wow for the Dirt Track. Really, “these Romans are crazy” as Obélix used to say. America is another planet in terms of motorcycles, and there the show has another dimension. On the other hand, how beautiful are the Yamaha with those mythical yellow, black and white war colors!

Worst:

  • The Indianapolis layout. Something similar to a karting track does not seem worthy for the mythical American motor cathedral. The straight of the original circuit is hardly used and a little more. A twisty and bumpy tour of the interior. Last year the rain left the track in the background, and we did not appreciate it. It cannot stand the comparison with the other spectacular American circuit of the championship: Laguna Seca.
  • Pedrosa could not transform his dominance into a victory. Dani dominated the training sessions with an iron hand. I think we were all expecting a lone gallop from Dani from flag to flag. And the race started with the expected script, although Dani seemed to be having a hard time detaching himself from the Yamaha. And on lap 5 it was all over. The day that Pedrosa most needed to win and had everything for it, he had to stay in a comeback of fast laps and pride.
  • The fall of Valentino Rossi. A rare, rare fall. When braking begins. He hit the ground for the fourth time this year (counting the fall in Donington's timers). It is not usual for Rossi to fall so much. Something is happening this season to the Italian. I do not think that the Championship will escape him, but this theatrical blow again gives him emotion when he almost had his name written.
  • The touch of Aleix Espargaró and Toni Elias in the first round. A pity in the queue of the platoon. Suddenly, we saw Aleix and Toni on the grass. That encounter conditioned the careers of both.
