Last Wednesday was the feast of San Juan, and to take advantage of this situation, the members of the Scooter Club Alicante. We have been doing this outing for three years now to celebrate the beginning of summer and take advantage of the fact that that day is a public holiday in the city. In previous years we managed to do more than one hundred and twenty kilometers this day, which more or less always has the same program, we meet at a gas station at the exit of Alicante, we go up to Relleu for lunch and then we return to the city by a road or another to see the mascletá that is fired in the center at 2:00 p.m. This year, chastened by the experience of last year that we did not arrive in time to see the mascletá, we decided to shorten the route as much as possible by doing Alicante-Relleu-Alicante, in total about 80 km.

At around 10:00 in the morning we all arrived more or less at the meeting point, where we filled the tanks and after having a coffee we set off on the road. The idea of this route is that it can be used by "novices" who want to join the club to ride with the most veteran group and thus become aware that their motorcycles (most of the time Vespa) can do kilometers without problems on the road. This section that we do has quite beautiful views of the city of Alicante and the sea, and in the areas that look north you can enjoy the typical Alicante mountain with almond trees in the crops and pine trees in the wildest areas. The pity is that this year, all the "rookies" who had warned that they were coming backed off and in the end none of them appeared.

For this outing and after having it stopped for a few months, I decided to take out my Lambretta Series 80 of 200 cc, which had stopped at the premises since November, when I participated in the III Scooter Rally of Alicante. The luck of this type of motorcycle is that as it does not have a battery, simply adding some new gasoline and priming the carburetor well, they start at the first kick. Just like mine did on Friday afternoon when I took it to take it to the garage at home.

This bike is about twenty years old and the mechanics is the original. Its 200cc engine was only checked when I bought it and the gear oil was changed to make sure everything was well lubricated. The rest works without any problem. Since I have it I will have done about 500 km in total, and it has always started the first time. The downside is that the paint is also the original and it suffers a lot from the passage of time, with some rusty areas. On the route, some of the friends of the club made comments like the Lambretta from Terminator Or that I had just taken it out of the sea, but the most accurate was when they told me that the motorcycle looked like a Mustang P-51 D from World War II. As soon as I get down to work, I know how the decoration will be.

In the photos you can see a girl driving her own motorcycle, something that is becoming more and more common in the club. Let's see if hopefully we can reverse the trend of 80% men and 20% women at the controls of motorcycles, I know that many girls are thrown back by the world of motorcycles, but all those who end up driving one become more biker than many men. Some have even been able to bring their partner to stay the two of them in the nucleus of people who do the most kilometers and activities a year. After the pertinent lunch and the group photo we went back the same way so that we did not get late and be able to enjoy the mascletá. Although this show suffered a technical problem and did not go as planned, a shame.

In short, this route is designed so that new people discover other uses for their Vespa and Lambretta, but this year, we enjoy it as usual, which is not bad either, because after the years that we have been riding together we need few signs to understand each other. us and we know very well at what speed each one is comfortable. The photos that illustrate this post I have to thank Alberto Bañón, who always with his camera at the ready is in charge of catching us and the motorcycles in the best poses.
