On October 23, 1965 the motorcycle prototype designed by Kreidler reached 225, 342 km / h in the salt lake of Bonneville, with this record it surpassed the previous ones of NSU and Zundapp with engines of 50 cc. Kreidler was founded in 1903 and its main business was steel pipes and modern forging techniques. In 1951, Albert Kreidler son of the owner of the brand decided to diversify the business and began to manufacture small displacement motorcycles. Like almost all companies of the time, it was clear that the best way to promote their products was to participate in the Motorcycle World Championship. Starting from the base of the Kreidler Florett 50cc The Renn Florett was born, a practically street motorcycle but with a much better tuned fairing and engine. Unfortunately for Kreidler they came face to face with the power of Suzuki and its revolutionary German technology engines and could not win the world championship until years later.
With this panorama in Kreidler they got down to work and decided to storm the world records of pure speed. For this they manufactured this prototype with a fairing designed by Vaifro Meo and tuned in the wind tunnel of the University of Stuttgart. Among the curiosities of the design we find that a dry ice system was installed for cooling, and the gear used was electromechanical, governed by solenoids that moved the gearbox sprockets and cut off the ignition until the desired gear was engaged, so the pilot only had You have to press buttons to go up or down gears. This sounds like a very modern motorcycle to me. In addition, the small 50cc engine was over-fed by a compressor that rotated at 1/4 of the engine's revolutions. In this way they were achieved 15 CV at the not inconsiderable speed of 15000 rpm.
The prototype managed to establish the following records:
- 1/4 mile stationary start: 73.95 km / h average (New FIM category)
- 1 mile from standing start: Average 108, 28 km / h
- 1 mile taken: Average 209, 215 km / h (going 193, 487 km / h) (lap 225, 342 km / h) Previous NSU record
- 1 Kilometer launched: Average 210, 634 km / h (going 196, 937 km / h) (lap 224, 330 kp / h) Previous NSU record
- 10 km starting from stopped 180, 785 km / h Previous record of Zundapp
As you can see, the speeds are terrifying, if we take into account that the pilot, Rudolph kunzHe was practically thrown behind the front wheel and inside a shell that hardly allowed him to see ahead. In the videos that you can see below, you can see quite well how exceptional the bike is and the records obtained with it.
