The FIM It has committed to reducing the decibel level emitted by motorcycles in off-road competitions for next year. Within a campaign known as "Drive in Silence", the maximum noise level will be reduced by an average of 3 to 6 decibels.
Starting next year, in the disciplines of motocross and circuit, the maximum level allowed at a distance of 100 meters will be 81 db / A, and in enduro the top at a distance of 100 meters will be 78 db / A. The measurements will be carried out using a new method called "2 meters maximum" with a sound meter placed at the rear of the motorcycle at a distance of two meters, at a 45º angle from the silencer and with the engine at full speed.
The President of the FIM, Vito Ippolito, stated the following:
I think that trying to make the field motorcycle make less noise is one of the first actions that must be taken so that this group stops being as discriminated against as it is currently. But it is not much use if later the user insists on mounting open exhausts.
