This week has finished the Dakar 2009. No, I am not mistaken: although the race ended in mid-January, it was between last week and this week that the organization has returned the vehicles to the participants in the port of Le Havre (France). This was the same place where the participants passed the pre-rally checks at the end of November. In practice, it has been almost three months since then. The Longest Dakar of history.

The 2009 edition, which took place between Argentina and Chile, overcame initial doubts and was a success that left an unbeatable taste in everyone's mouth: participants, organization, public and authorities. Therefore, a question remained floating in the air: Where will the Dakar 2010 edition? Would he return to Africa again or would he continue one more year on American soil? Arguments and opinions in favor of one or another option have not been lacking in the past month.

Finally, the minister secretary of the presidency of Chile affirmed last Tuesday that the Dakar 2010 would be held again in Argentina and Chile. He also added that next year's edition would have more stages in Chile, specifically in the north of the country, in the Atacama desert.

All eyes then turned to the ASO, the organizer of the Dakar, in search of confirmation or denial of the anticipated news. And the ASO has published a short note on its website confirming the continuity in the American continent. The note reads as follows: "Faced with the success and popular enthusiasm aroused by the Dakar 2009, which was held for the first time in Argentina and Chile, ASO and both countries have jointly decided to organize the 2010 rally in South America for its 32nd edition. Information regarding the event will be communicated at two press conferences, the first to be held on March 2 in Buenos Aires and the second on March 3 in Santiago de Chile."

So, we have to wait until next week to know more details of the 2010 edition. For now, those who have rejoiced will surely have been the organizers of the Africa Race, which will have a new edition to try to consolidate the race as the reference raid in Africa.
