When Yamaha put the MT-01 on the market in 2004 I think they were thinking of replacing the V-Max, but it seems they were totally wrong. The MT-01, at least in Spain, did not have the success expected by the Japanese. Although as good Asians who are sure they took note of the issue and a few years later they present us with this version that is now called Yamaha MT-01 SPAnd what changes from the original model? Well, some details that surely make it more exclusive. And we detail below.
Keeping the same twin engine in vee at 48º from 1670 cc that gives 90 hp at 4750 rpm and a torque of 15.3 Kg-m at 3750 rpm, now they have fitted a front fork and a rear shock absorber developed jointly with Öhllins. Which promises to be much smoother and more refined than the previous one. It also mounts as original equipment some Pirelli Diablo Rosso in sizes 120 / 70-17 at the front and 190 / 50-17 at the rear. Black leg rubbers so that the motorcycle sticks to the ground without problems. Finally, they have included a thicker handlebar, 28.5 mm instead of the previous 25, 4, and some new risers where it rests that give a more muscular look to that part of the bike.
But the part that stands out the most is the new image they have given it, with a red and white tank decoration that now stands out much more on the bike, a new seat upholstery now in two tones and the rims in gold. The exhaust is now covered with a layer of nano-film and the engine includes some chrome parts. I honestly do not know what that nano-film is, but it is very technical in the press release.
In short, they have washed the face of a model that did not work in the market as expected by Yamaha, although there is even some exclusive group of users of this motorcycle. Right Pau?
