Motorcycle crossing, an organized chaos
Motorcycle crossing, an organized chaos

Strolling through the internet, I found this really curious video: a street crossing starring motorcycles. Many motorcycles. Seeing it, the first feeling is one of absolute chaos. But when you look at it again in detail, you see an impressive degree of interaction and organization between the bikes. And in fact, the most impressive thing is that they manage to pass smoothly without crashing or falling.

We are always used to motorcycles coexisting with the rest of the traffic (cars, vans, buses, …) in inferior conditions. It has always seemed to me that motorcycles do not circulate in traffic, but rather we circulate among the traffic. A subtle but significant difference. Enter the traffic. But many times I have given turns to the fantasy of what would happen if only motorcycles were to circulate. What would the traffic be like?

The video in this post can give us some idea since, although there are some cars, clearly motorcycles are the protagonists of the traffic: there are no wide lanes of cars and the entire street is organized according to the motorcycles. In fact, it would be rethink roads in cities: the ordering of the turns, the number of lanes, the parking lots, …

Now that I think about it, the closest thing I have ever experienced are the traffic jams entering and leaving the Jérez Circuit … And they are terrible and disorderly traffic jams: where there are two free spans, we all tend to put the wheel in, the lines are not respected,… Anyway, I almost prefer to pass in my city between the lines of stuck cars than to get into a traffic jam only of motorcycles.
