In Barcelona, the car is in decline as a means of urban transport. A study confirms what is seen every day with the naked eye in the city: the presence of motorcycles is growing and massive. The mobility survey on weekdays shows that 40% of those who travel in the city by private vehicle do so by motorcycle. 40% It is a high percentage that makes it clear that the motorcycle's marginality has already been left behind.

Once again, it is confirmed that the motorcycle is an excellent vehicle for urban mobility. Motorcycle users in the survey acknowledge that the speed and comfort are the main reasons for its daily use. Without forgetting the lower environmental impact it has compared to the car. The substitution of cars for motorcycles is a direct way of reducing environmental impact.

As is to be expected, on intercity routes the use of the motorcycle drops substantially up to 12% of users. In this area there is still a clear margin to grow. Among the things that could be improved, the lack of security appears (come on, when we fall we hurt ourselves, for those who would not have realized it) and aspects such as the incivility of parking on the sidewalks are mentioned (as if there were other places available), although it also stands out that motorcycles park less in double row than cars (go obvious!).

There we enter another topic that I will return to in future posts: the need to demand that the infrastructures take into account once and for all the motorcycle as a relevant and fundamental vehicle in urban mobility and not as marginal users.
