After the terrible setback caused by the cancellation of the Dakar 2008 rally, a serious blow to the participants, the organizations, the governments of the countries that the rally was passing through and, what is important to me, the population that saw the rally as a possibility to improve your quality of life, the Dakar Series looks like a great relief for the first two leads I mentioned. In other words, participants and organization.

In a record recycling, the Dakar Series and, specifically, the Central European Rally, or Central Europe Rally, as a way to compensate, on the one hand, all the machinery that made the Dakar possible, and on the other, the fans and, more importantly, the investors and advertising agencies, sponsors, etc. Although what I am telling sounds a bit radical, it seems to me that it is a painting that is painted like this, in that order.

Focusing on what is competition, it seems interesting to plan a rally that includes a variety of terrain for approximately 3,000 kilometers, practically half of them timed, traveling through Hungary and Romania during seven stages between April 19 and 26.

Starting from Budapest, where all the technical procedures and verifications will be carried out, the first stage will be held in Romania. The stages will not be as demanding as they tend to be in the Dakar Rally (well, it is better to speak in the past tense…), routes between 60 and 170 kilometers on different types of terrain will challenge the participants registered in the rally. It must be said that those registered for the suspended Dakar enter free (hence the rumors of refund of fees, etc., have been a compensation that for me is much less).

It will be necessary to be aware of this new competition, which does not intend to replace the usual Dakar, but to give a greater variety to the raids, to relaunch Hungary and Romania a bit, which with this type of event enters something more on the international motor scene. The Dakar will continue next year, but the possibility that it will be in South America (it would start in Argentina and end in Chile) gains strength with each passing day.

Calling it "Dakar" in any case, I don't like it, and I have to say it or I'll bust. It is a brand that allows sponsors and advertising not to suffer, but it will not be a Dakar rally, nor will this be the Dakar Series that they sell us. I will take more thoughts on this to my personal blog, which after all we are talking about motorcycles here.
