Roberto Colaninno (President of the Piaggio Group), to the left of Jorge Lorenzo in the photo, has declared to the press during the presentation of the Aprilia Shiver 750 that the company plans to enter Moto GP racing within three years. Until now it was only known that they had intention to return to the Superbike World Championship next 2008. This participation is part of the company's policy, which considers it very important for its image that the first European motorcycle group participate in the queen categories of the two wheels.
They also consider that the debut in Super Bikes, can be considered as a first step to train the members of the technical team who would later make the leap to Moto GP. I think that the Japanese factories should be very happy, because, with Ducati surprising this year in Moto GP and with the track record they accumulate in Super Bikes, another great European company is going to join the two-wheel circus. It is what they have always said from Japan, although perhaps now that they begin to see the wolf's ears they no longer think it so good.
